New beginnings: 9-17-09

Today I woke up to a morning sky
littered with hot air balloons--
jesters in the kingdom of heaven.

I smiled and thought:
Today, anything is possible.
I smelled new changes on the air like sea salt and sunshine,
pencil shavings and fall leaves.

The wind tussled my hair like an affectionate uncle,
but whispered encouragement like God.
He said something like:
You're brave enough to wear those yellow sneakers today.

  1. Lovely! I am glad those air balloons inspired you, too. I love the image of the affectionate uncle, and how it connects to your other poem about yellow sneakers.

Oh! And I think you want "smelled," because "smelt" is a fish.
